South Carolina Public Charter School District Recognizes Nine “Schools of Distinction”
It is with great pleasure that the SCPCSD staff recognizes nine schools as SCPCSD Schools of Distinction based on data from the 2016-2017 academic school year. These schools have received this distinction for promoting educational improvement and excellence.
The SCPCSD Distinction Program was formed to recognize schools that exhibit excellence in overall academic achievement and/or overall student growth measures. Of the nine schools named, five reside in the upstate; Greenville Tech Charter High School, Greenville; Brashier Middle College, Greenville; Greer Middle College, Greenville; Lead Academy, Greenville; and Youth Leadership Academy in Pickens. Three schools reside in the midlands; York Preparatory Academy, Rock Hill; East Point Academy, Columbia; and Fox Creek High School in North Augusta. One lowcountry school, Palmetto Scholars Academy, resides in North Charleston.
SCPCSD Superintendent Elliot Smalley is quoted saying, “Our first charge, by law, is to improve student learning, and our Schools of Distinction are great examples of charter schools maximizing their autonomy to give power to educators, expand quality choice for families, and drive student outcomes. We’re thrilled that these Schools of Distinction are achieving top-level growth or achievement and we look forward to growing the impact of these schools and learning from their practices this year”.
This school year, the South Carolina Public Charter School District oversees 39 public charter schools serving approximately 26,000 students across the state.
