New Schools SC Fellowship

THE FELLOWSHIP

The SCPCSD is the first charter authorizer in the country to launch a charter school incubation program to catalyze the creation of high quality charter schools that will serve those South Carolina communities that have the greatest need for high quality school choice options.  We are seeking dynamic, passionate, relentless educators who want to design, found, lead, and sustain a high-performing charter school for an underserved community in South Carolina.

BECOME A FELLOW.

COMMIT TO SOUTH CAROLINA.

BUILD YOUR SCHOOL.

WHAT YOU’LL GET

Each fellow receives up to $250,000 to help launch a new South Carolina charter school, and funds are designed to be flexible and applied to developing the specific school model in one of the three pathways. Funds may be allocated, but are not limited to: a competitive salary, healthcare, benefits, school model development, and network expansion consulting.  In addition, fellows will take part in:

COMMUNITY FACILITATION

We’ll help facilitate a community needs audit to support the school’s founder in better understanding the desires of the parents, families, and students in the community. This audit will be used to build a school model that is tailored to the needs of the community.

YEAR ZERO SUPPORT

You’ll receive guidance in “year zero activities,” including student and family recruitment, staff recruitment and retention, and facility funding.

SEE THE BEST

You’ll have opportunities to travel to some of the nation’s best performing charter schools and engage with school leaders and successful charter networks (CMOs). These visits will inform the instructional and operational core of the fellow’s school.

REPLICATE THE BEST MODELS

Guidance and feedback on the proposed school design, charter application and opening process, with leadership from coaches who have launched several of the highest-performing charter schools in the southeast.

WORLD CLASS COACHING

You’ll get leadership development opportunities, including intensive training and role-play around leadership voice, leadership presence, and instructional feedback.

ACCESS TO NETWORKS

Access to a network of expert consultants and coaches who can help build capacity by introducing you to best practices in a variety of communities.

WHO CAN BECOME A FELLOW?

IN-STATE CHARTER OPERATOR

As part of a successful South Carolina charter school or charter network, a fellow will lead the creation of a new charter school serving a new set of grade levels within their school’s existing community or replicate their school’s model in a new community in the state.

NEW TO SC EXPANSION

With a successful charter school or CMO that currently operates in other states, a fellow will lead the organization’s expansion to South Carolina and tailor their proven school model to serve South Carolina families.

NEW START LEADER

Entrepreneurial educators and leaders who have the talent, energy, and capacity to found a new high-performing charter school – ideally, fellows have a proven track record of generating top-tier academic achievement for low-income students.
