Please note that the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) publishes the Letter of Intent and the Charter Application each year. The forms for the upcoming 2020 cycle (for schools applying to open in the 2021-2022 school year) have not yet been published. We will post them as soon as they are available. The Letter of Intent for the upcoming cycle must be submitted by November 3, 2019. Please complete the attached form indicating your intent to apply to open a charter school with the South Carolina Public Charter School District (SCPCSD) as your intended sponsor. The form should be emailed to Catherine Watt, SCPCSD Director of Charter Development, at firstname.lastname@example.org. A copy should also be emailed to the SCDE at email@example.com.
All charter applications must be submitted electronically via the SCDE's online application portal. The SCDE will conduct a training session on the submission process for all applicants. More information can be found at ed.sc.gov. All applications are due by 5:00pm February 1, 2020.
The application will be reviewed by a team of skilled evaluators. The SCPCSD Board of Trustees will then conduct a public hearing within 90 days of the February 1, 2020 application due date to determine whether or not the charter committee will be granted a charter.
