District Performance

SC Ready-ACT Testing-EOCP-SC Pass

How is Performance Measured?

SC Ready

  • SC READY Assessment items measure student performance on grades 3-8 on the South Carolina College-and Career-Ready Standards. ELA and mathematics standards and supporting documents are available on the South Carolina Department of Education website: http://ed.sc.gov/instruction/standards-learning/
  • The SC READY test items are aligned to the standards for each subject and grade level. Standards outline what schools are expected to teach and what students are expected to learn. Academic standards also include indicators that are statements of the specific cognitive processes and the content knowledge and skills that students must demonstrate to meet the grade-level standards. SC READY test items are written to assess the content knowledge and skills described in the academic standards and indicators.

EOCEP

  • The End of Course Examination Program (EOCEP) is a statewide assessment program of end of course tests for gateway courses awarded units of credit in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. The EOCEP encourages instruction in the specific academic standards for the courses, encourages student achievement, and documents the level of students’ mastery of the academic standards. To meet federal accountability requirements, the EOCEP in mathematics, English/language arts and science will be administered to all public school students by the third year of high school, including those students as required by the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) and by Title 1 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).To earn a South Carolina high school diploma, students are required to pass a high school credit course in science, and a high school credit course in United States history in which the state’s end of course examinations are administered. Currently these courses are Biology 1 (science) and United States History and Constitution (social studies).

ACT

  • The ACT is a nationally administered, standardized paper-and-pencil test. Colleges use ACT scores in their decision-making process for admissions and merit-based scholarships. In the spring of 2017 all public high schools and, where necessary, career centers, are required to offer The ACT to each student in the eleventh grade on the dates provided below. The ACT cannot be selectively offered or not offered to specific students or certain groups of students or schools. The law does not permit opt-in or opt-out forms. The tests must be provided (given or handed) to every student in eleventh grade on the test day so the student offered the test can take it. SC-NCSC may be used as the alternate to The ACT for students who are alternate-assessment eligible.
  • The ACT testing program includes multiple-choice tests in English, Reading, Mathematics, and Science, as well as a Writing test, which is an essay. The ACT test scores provide information about progress toward college readiness and are widely used by colleges in making decisions about admission. Students who take The ACT according to ACT, Inc. requirements will be able to share their ACT scores with up to four colleges or universities for free. Parents should contact their School Counselor if they have questions.

SC PASS

  • SCPASS test items measure student performance grade levels 4-8 on the South Carolina Academic Standards. The SCPASS test items are aligned to the standards for each subject and grade level. Standards outline what schools are expected to teach and what students are expected to learn. Academic standards also include indicators that are statements of the specific cognitive processes and the content knowledge and skills that students must demonstrate to meet the grade-level standards. SCPASS test items are written to assess the content knowledge and skills described in the academic standards and indicators.
