Cape Romain Environmental Education Charter School

How We're Innovative

Cape Romain Environmental Education Charter School seeks to make a difference in public schools by providing curriculum and instruction that encourages all students to excel through the study of their locality. The rich cultural heritage of the McClellanville area ranging from Georgetown to Awendaw provides an excellent backdrop for student inquiry into the social, cultural, economic and ecological history of the region. This dynamic outdoor laboratory including North, South and Cat Islands, the Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge and the Francis Marion National Forest, is well-suited for place-based environmental education and for using South Carolina’s natural environment as a laboratory for learning across the curriculum. Through place-based environmental education, our students can learn more about the natural world in which they live, increasing their sense of place, self-identity, regional pride, and conservation ethic.
